Austere Advent

Our church often has an exuberant approach to Advent.



We're not the kind of church that puts up secular trees, but we do have them.  This year, they're on different levels.



Yesterday when people came to church, some of them used the word "austere."




But I like the simplicity.  I like the different approach to the Advent wreath  this year:



I like the blue and the fact that we're using different shades of blue.




The manger is empty now, but it won't be for long:





I put the baby Jesus where we'll be sure to see him when he needs to take center stage on Christmas Eve:




Yes, that's a cactus plant.  There's a symbolism here that I like too--God appearing where we don't expect to find the Divine.
